The Regal Family of Corona

So, I saw this lovely piece here: [link] which got me thinking and reminded me of how I thought my parents and I looked exactly like Rapunzel and her parents, facial feature wise. So then I got inspired to take a picture of my parents and I at TGI Fridays and transform it into this: the regal family portrait of the royal Coronian family, a.k.a. Rapunzel and her parents after she's returned to the kingdom.

I would've added Eugene in there but seeing as I don't have any friends who look like Eugene I could've used as reference nor was there anyone else in the picture, I left him out. Plus, I wanted it to be the royal family solely by blood and not marriage in this one.

I would post the original picture I used (and I admit, I actually traced the general shape of my and my parents faces in that picture just to get the right shape and feel, though everything else-- the details, the clothing, the hair, the crowns-- was done freehand by myself.

I used lots of additional reference pictures to the one of my parents and I, mainly ones to get the details of the king and queen right. And, I am happy to say I tried to make the characters as close to realistic versions of themselves as possible, also in an effort to help reflect my parents within the character. Hence why the Queen appears heavier and bustier, because my own mother is heavier and bustier. I tried to give Rapunzel a more realistic body as well, while still keeping her slim, since I'm slim but not as slim as Rapunzel in the movie. My dad? His eyes are kind of, um, small...in this picture. I want to go back and fix that but I'd rather not mess up all the work I've done. After all, this did take me 3 and a half hours.

Maybe tomorrow I'll color it with colored pencils or in Photoshop or something, but for now the sketch will have to do ^_^
